Rubrik IPO Update: Countdown to April

Portfolio company Rubrik, a leading cybersecurity software startup, is on the brink of a major milestone, with plans for an IPO in New York slated for April. This strategic move unfolds against a U.S. fraud investigation into a former employee, signaling the firm's resilience and commitment to transparency. Rubrik, valued at $4 billion in a 2021 investment by Microsoft, has been a beacon of innovation in cloud-based ransomware protection and data backup, catering to over 5,000 business customers, including industry giants like Nvidia and Home Depot. With annual recurring revenue surpassing $600 million and a growth trajectory in the high single-digit percentages, Rubrik's journey to the public market is keenly watched. The company's preparation for the IPO has been meticulous, with Goldman Sachs, Barclays, and Citigroup leading the charge as underwriters. This IPO marks a significant phase for Rubrik and signals a revitalizing momentum in the U.S. IPO market.

Last June, we published this headline about Rubrik hiring bankers:

According to individuals who asked to remain anonymous due to the secret nature of the discussions, the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)-backed cybersecurity software startup has lined up Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS), Citigroup, and Barclays PLC (LSE:BARC) for the IPO, Reuters said.

Rubrik may be public in H1 2024, raising more than $750 million depending on market conditions. During a funding round, the company was given a $4 billion valuation two years ago.

The Key Factors Driving a Potential Rubrik IPO Attraction

Since its establishment in 2014, Rubrik has raised more than $550 million, including an impressive $261 million Series E funding round that led to the firm being valued at $3.3 billion. This fundraising feat has enabled Rubrik to penetrate security and compliance with conviction.

Despite prevailing economic challenges, Rubrik has continued its steady growth, increasing its employee base by 19% over the past year, bringing the total to 3,334. The most substantial expansion has been witnessed within the sales and operations divisions of the company.

As Rubrik's co-founder and CEO, Bipul Sinha, communicated to Information Security Media Group last September, the company is centered around leveraging core data to identify security threats. He stated, "We are focused on analyzing the core data to decipher the security risk. Consequently, our clientele base is engaged in initial purchases and accelerating their expansion with us."

Sinha's words hint at a strategic trajectory that aligns with customer needs, which amplifies Rubrik's allure as a potentially enticing IPO candidate. The company's strong financial performance, aggressive growth, and commitment to innovative solutions underline why market watchers are keeping a keen eye on the prospect of a Rubrik IPO.
